Abstract

The poet Sheikh Jum'ah Sahl expressed his personal concerns as well as the issues of the Arab and Islamic nations, producing exquisite poems compiled in his collection *Inna 'Ala al-Mithaq* ("We Are Committed to the Covenant"). The researcher aimed to study this vibrant poetic material through the analysis of sentence structures, both nominal and verbal, at various levels, based on the transformational-generative theory. Additionally, the study seeks to demonstrate the precedence of Arab scholars in understanding linguistic concepts related to sentences and their structures. The research is organized into an introduction, three main axes, and a conclusion. The introduction introduces Sheikh Jum'ah and the study's corpus, defines the concept of a sentence, and clarifies the research approach. The first axis is for basics of research. The second axis is dedicated to analyzing simple sentence, including their types, structural elements, and semantic impact. The third axis focuses on compound sentence, examining their types, structural elements, and semantic impact. The conclusion highlights the key findings, including the observation that the poem *Sarkhat 'Anis* ("Cry of an Unmarried Woman") represents a mature stage in Sheikh Jum'ah Sahl's poetry. This poem reflects social realities, portraying the tragedy of a woman over forty who remains unmarried due to the excessive demands of dowries. The study also confirms the possibility of analyzing simple and complex sentences in contemporary Arabic poetry using the foundational framework of Chomsky's transformational-generative theory.
