Abstract

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a clinically significant condition resulting from the formation of thrombi in the deep venous system, most commonly in the lower extremities. It poses substantial morbidity and mortality risks, particularly due to its potential progression to pulmonary embolism (PE), a life-threatening complication characterized by embolic migration of the thrombus to the pulmonary vasculature. The etiology of DVT is multifactorial, involving a complex interplay of genetic predispositions, acquired conditions, and environmental influences. Established risk factors include prolonged immobility, surgical interventions, malignancy, inherited thrombophilias, and hormonal fluctuations associated with pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives
