Abstract

This study examines the impact of the rule "custom is authoritative" on how professions are characterized as honorable or ignoble, given that this rule is one of the major principles governing the application of Islamic legal rulings to changing circumstances. The study aims to clarify the relationship between fixed legal rulings and variable customary descriptions found in the writings of many jurists across topics such as marital compatibility, moral conduct, and legal testimony.
