الملخص

The study examined phytochemical content, antimicrobial efficacy, and therapeutic efficacy of Sarcocephalus latifolius bark extracts. The objective was to determine the plant’s medicinal value through phytochemical screening and clinical trials. Phytochemical content was considerably different in extracts. Aqueous and methanolic extracts had high content (++++) of alkaloids and flavonoids. Tannins, saponins, and glycosides were present in moderate (++) quantities in both of them. Sterols were found in aqueous extracts but not in methanolic extractions, indicating solvent-specific release of compounds. Antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella and Shigella species at concentrations of 10-100 mg/mL revealed no significant inhibition, indicating weak or no antibacterial activity under tested conditions. Whereas, clinical evaluation involved 40 subjects with a history of malaria; treatment with a (4 mg/250 mL) dose of the extract resulted in a 100% positive therapeutic response across both genders
