Author Guidelines
The SJMS publishes original articles, review articles, met analysis, case reports, Letters to the Editor, short communications and commentaries.
Manuscripts submitted to the SJMS should be compiled in English.
Authors are requested to submit their papers electronically by using the online manuscript submission system, at: http://journal.oiu.edu.sd/index.php/sjms. Authors, reviewers, and editors send and receive all correspondences through this system.
First, editor evaluates the article, if it meets our publication interest it will be checked forsimilarity by iThenticate program, then send to double blind peer-review. According to reviewer comments editor made a decision based on several categories’, accept in present form, accept after minor revision, Re-submit after major revision, or Reject.
The identities of the reviewers will not be revealed, and the reviewers will be blinded to the names of the authors and the institutions from which the manuscripts have been sent (Double blind review).
Submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by 2 or more experts in the corresponding field.
Accepted manuscripts are requested to be proofread by authors.
Copy editing is done by the KE specialized team.
There is no charge for submitting and processing a paper until policy change.
Copyrights of all published materials are owned by the SJMS. Corresponding author must submit the journal's copyright transfer agreement, which includes a section on the disclosure of potential conflicts of interest.
SJMS is an open access journal. Articles are freely available on the journal website for any user, worldwide, immediately upon publication without additional charge. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/)
Manuscript Preparation
The format of Sudan JMS complies with the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts submitted to
Biomedical Journals”, as published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors in
Vancouver (the widely accepted “Vancouver style“): see http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/.
Manuscripts, including tables, references, and figure legends, must be typewritten, double spaced,
on 8 ½ x 11 inch (21.5x 28 cm) or A4 paper, with margins of at least one inch (2.5cm). Times New
Roman is the preferred font type with font size 12. Pages should be numbered consecutively,
beginning with the title page and continuing through the last page of typewritten material.
References
References are to be listed, double-spaced, in consecutive numerical order according to the order of citation
in the manuscript. Once a reference is cited, all subsequent citations should be to the original number. All
references must be cited in the text or tables and appear as superscript number without brackets.
Unpublished data and personal communications will not be accepted as references. References (Vancouver
style) to journal articles should include, in this order: (1) authors. (2) title. (3) journal name (as abbreviated in
Index Medicus). (4) year. ( 5) volume and issue number, (6) inclusive page numbers. (7) DOI number of article.
References to books should include (1) authors (2) chapter title (if any), (3) editor's names (if any), (4) title of
book. (5) City of publication, (6) publisher, (7) year and (8) DOI number (if any). Volume and edition numbers
and specific page numbers should be included when appropriate. The authors are responsible for their correct
textual citation. Refer to reference citations and listing in the text for proper format.
Illustrations
All illustrations (“figures”) and tables must be numbered. Photographs must be high contrast Written
permission must accompany any photograph in which the subject can be identified or any figure or table that
has been previously published.
Bioethics
All manuscripts reporting the results of experimental investigation involving human subjects should include a
statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from each subject or subject’s guardian, after
ethical approval of the experimental protocol by a local human ethics committee.Title Page
The title page must contain (1) Title of the article, (2) Correct names of each author plus academic degrees for
each, (3) Each author’s official academic and/or clinical title and affiliation, (4) Name and address of the
institution(s), (5) name and address of author to whom correspondence should be sent, if it differs from the
first author, and (6) Any disclaimers. For case reports, it is recommended that the number of authors be limited
to four. Acknowledgment of support should be included in the Acknowledgment section at the end of the
article.

Abstracts
All original articles must contain an abstract of not more than 250 words. The abstract should include
statements of background, materials and methods of study, results, and conclusion.
Manuscript Format
Most original articles should have the following format: Introduction: (the question the paper intends to
answer), Materials and Methods: (the study design and methods, definitions such as for diagnostic criteria, the
population or patient samples, and laboratory and statistical methods), Results: (the pertinent findings in a
logical sequence with tables and figures as necessary) and Discussion: (conclusions based on the findings,
evidence from the literature that supports the conclusions, conflicting evidence, applicability of the
conclusions, and implications for future research or clinical applications).

Each table should be typed double-spaced, including all headings. Verify tabular statistics to make sure they
tally and match data cited in the text. Each table must have a legend.
